Your first visit at our Santa Monica dental office

Please bring your filled out patient information form to this visit. If time allows, the form will be mailed to you or it can be downloaded from this page. Download Form

At the first appointment, we will review your medical and dental history, take necessary x-rays, conduct a thorough examination that includes an oral cancer screening, periodontal (gum disease) probings and exam, TMJ (temporomandibular joint) and bite (occlusion) assessment, and a dental exam to check for cavities, fractures, and problematic dental work. Dr. Yang will also clean your teeth. If you have not been to the dentist in many years, you may need a deep cleaning rather than a simple one. We will also provide oral hygiene instruction if indicated.

Dr. Yang will then discuss the findings of your examination and any recommended dental work. She will detail the different treatment options. Sometimes there is a single, best option; usually there are pros and cons of various options. We will take the time to answer all your questions.

If extensive dental work is needed, Dr. Yang will help prioritize your treatment and create a plan so that it can be done in stages. Sometimes specialists are necessary to fulfill your dental needs. We have complete confidence in the highly experienced specialists we choose for your dental team.

Office technology

Our office uses all digital x-ray equipment. This substantially reduces the amount of radiation exposure. Also reduced is the time it takes to generate an image. It's usually a matter of minutes, if not seconds, before all your images can be seen on the computer screen in front of you. Just as quickly, the x-rays can be sent digitally to a specialist if required.

We also have an intraoral camera that can be used to photograph your teeth and highlight conditions in your mouth. As the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words.

The water used in your mouth does not come from the city water pipes. We use distilled bottled water only. The compressed air in the drills has been lab certified to be free of contaminants.

Rest assured we take universal infection control precautions and heat sterilize all our instruments. We also perform weekly spore testing of our sterilizer through an outside independent lab.

Dr. Yang uses glasses with magnification for all your dental procedures.

Your appointment time

We all live in a busy world and we know your time is valuable. We try our very best to be on time with your appointment. We ask for the same courtesy in return.

Your appointment time has been reserved exclusively for you. We only schedule one patient at a time. We would appreciate 48-hours notice should you need to reschedule. (310-458-0501) Patients who chronically cancel appointments without adequate notice will be charged an appointment cancellation fee.

Payment policies

We recognize that dental care is expensive. We work very hard to keep our fees reasonable so that it is fair for you and for us. We accept almost all dental insurances. Payment is expected at the time treatment is rendered. For your convenience, we accept Visa and Mastercard. We also offer Care Credit, one of the nation's leading financers of health care services.

Insurance

For patients with dental insurance, we will work with your insurance company to determine eligibility and benefits. We will file your insurance claim and provide reasonable follow-up of that claim. We will estimate the portion not covered by your insurance and only collect that amount from you. If extensive dental work is required, we will plan the work with your insurance benefits in mind so that you can use it to full advantage.

Please understand, though, that dental insurance has become increasingly complex. We do our best to assist you in dealing with your insurance, but you are responsible for the amount not covered by your insurance carrier.

Medicare does not have dental insurance coverage.
